New England may be in for some relief from the high energy prices it pays due to a lack of natural gas capacity.
National Grid has teamed up with Eversource Energy and Spectra Energy to break ground on Access Northeast, a project that will increase natural gas access in the region by up to one billion cubic feet per day.
The group's proposal suggests that it can save customers an average of one billion dollars per year in a normal weather year. It would do this by upgrading the existing infrastructure and building out more gas storage capacity to supply generators.
