As more and more homes and businesses turn to distributed energy generation and energy efficiency measures, utilities and ESCOs/REPs are looking at a major change in the customer landscape.
A recent study by Accenture found that the sustained growth of these technologies could cause a significant disruption in energy demand. Because of this, utilities' total revenues are expected to fall by up to $48 billion a year in the United States going forward.
As both private investors and governments spend more on upgrading the infrastructure and providing subsidies for cleaner power in many areas of the U.S., ESCOs/REPs will have to keep a close eye on changing demand patterns when forecasting and delivering energy to their customers.
Tune in next week for more energy market news!
